22nd August, 2019
Today, at the usual place, The George Pompidu Public Library, putting together the article soon to be published that I titled, ‘The European Union Military, another dictatorship disaster at the expense of the French’.
There was a VERY minor problem here today shortly after my arrival at 1pm. A man using the PC at the Autoformation desk walked away from the computer he was using and took his bags. After 15minutes the computer restarted, giving the invitation on screen for public use, so I restarted the computer I was using at the standing post by the entry door on the second floor to make it available for someone else and relocated to the PC at the Autoformation desk, in view of staff operating the Audio Learning Section.
I logged in and started using the computer he walked away from, working on my article mentioned above. Five minutes later, the man who was initially using this PC returned with his bags and wanted it back. I declined because by then I had already logged in.
The library staff behind the audio learning desk were called upon and all took his side except for one, (who did not see what happened - who has witnesses me using the library computers every day according to library rules, without causing anyone any problems); the presence of the other staff members started an argument. I was rudly criticised by staff for ‘apparently’ not behaving well.
The initial user of this particular computer was Asian and did not speak good English, so communication with him was already difficult - he was organized elsewhere by staff who forced me log out despite having the right of use (losing my all my publication content from Ms Word) and log back in for the second time, which to on-lookers made it look like I just attended the computer and caused an argument needlessly.
After the staff members returned to their desk, I politely approached them and asserted my position, I said ‘Sir can I ask you a question (because the other staff member who decided to blame me didn’t let me get a word in)?’ He said yes, so I asked ‘if a computer is left unattended for longer than 15 minutes does it restart to give other users access?’ and he said ‘yes’. I concluded with, ‘well that’s all I did and if that’s wrong, you should change the message on the opening screen inviting users to log in!’ He said nothing more and the others refused to apologize.
When I returned back to use this computer, I was logged out of my this website, where I had intended to post this event to gain other peoples openion and was blocked from logging back in.
